6000 Series Aluminum alloy

The 6000 series aluminum alloy is composed mainly of magnesium and silicon, and is known for its high strength, good corrosion resistance, and excellent weldability. It is widely used in the aerospace, automotive, construction, and machinery manufacturing industries.

The 6000 series aluminum combines the benefits of the 4000 series
and 5000 series by using magnesium and silicon. The most commonly used alloys in this series are 6061, 6063, and 6082.
6061 is a cold-worked aluminum forging alloy that is great for applications requiring high resistance to corrosion and oxidation. It is strong, easily coated and oxidized, and known for its weldability. It is commonly used in aerospace, automotive, and mechanical mold manufacturing.
6063 alloy is well-suited for extrusion processing into industrial profiles, building doors and windows, and curtain walls due to its excellent processing performance and strength.
6082 alloy is a high-strength aluminum alloy that can be used to manufacture high-demand aerospace and ship structural parts.

Physical Properties

Product Types

Aluminum alloys in the 6000 series can be shaped into aluminum rods, aluminum tubes, aluminum profiles and aluminum sheets through casting, extrusion, and rolling processes. At HDM, we mainly supply 6061 aluminum bars, aluminum sheets, and industrial aluminum profiles.
6 series aluminum sheets possess good strength, workability, and corrosion resistance, making them suitable for manufacturing in industries such as aerospace, shipbuilding, automotive, electronics, and construction.
6 series aluminum tubes/rods usually have good strength and corrosion resistance, making them suitable for manufacturing machinery components, precision instruments, electronic equipment, and automotive parts.

6 series aluminum wire has good conductivity, workability, and corrosion resistance, and is widely used in the manufacture of power transmission and distribution, communication circuits, and electrical components.

6 series alloy welding materials exhibit good welding performance, strength, and plasticity, and are suitable for production in fields such as aerospace, automobile manufacturing, railway transportation, metallurgical industry, and electric power.

6 series aluminum casting alloys are suitable for manufacturing automotive parts, machinery, and shipbuilding. Additionally, aluminum alloys in the 6000 series can be used to make products such as steel-aluminum composite plates and aluminum alloy heat exchangers.

Applications

The 6000 series aluminum is highly formable and can be used in various applications, such as aerospace, transportation, and sports equipment industries, which require precision manufacturing and high strength. It can be made into different products like rods, tubes, profiles, and sheets through extrusion, rolling, casting, and other processes.

Aerospace

The 6000 series aluminum has high strength, excellent formability, and good welding performance. Both extruded and precision-machined rods and 6061 aluminum sheets are widely used in the aerospace industry for manufacturing aircraft structural components, cabin components, steam turbines, and navigation equipment.

Transportation

Commonly utilized in transportation manufacturing due to its strength, light weight, and corrosion resistance. It is used for engine covers, doors, wheels, frames, and body structures in automobiles, and for body structures, doors, windows, and roofs in trains. In shipbuilding, it is mainly used for ship bodies, bridges, bulkheads, and equipment.

Architectural Decoration

The 6000 series aluminum is an excellent choice for architectural decoration materials as it has great corrosion resistance, formability, and plasticity. It is used to manufacture doors, windows, exterior and interior walls, and ceilings, and is available in sheets, profiles, and rods.
